Aurora Arts Theatre

AAT opened its doors in January 2010 and has a strong commitment to provide the community with a theatrical venue where the elements of theatre can be enjoyed, practiced, learned, and shared.

Our goal is to provide live theatre entertainment for the community and patrons alike. We maintain a professional environment and hope to be a new staple in the growing circle of arts in the Corpus Christi area. With the talents and efforts of our community, the Aurora will bring a variety of quality theatre to be explored and experienced by our growing community. It is our belief that the community will be enriched by the array of talent and theatre they will experience at the Aurora.

Providing theatrical opportunities for people of all ages will enhance the theatre and attract new audiences. It is our hope that patrons will experience live theatre and find it an enriching form of entertainment and expression.

Namesake

The Aurora Arts Theatre is named after Aurora 'Loli' Chapa Taylor (December 18, 1929 - March `1, 2009), a South Texas native who had a deep love of the arts. Aurora was born in Harlingen, Texas and, after her marriage, moved to Corpus Christi where she and her husband established a home and raised four sons. She was an extremely talented woman who could certainly multi-task by today's definition. In addition to raising her sons and running her home, she was a dress designer, a seamstress, and an avid crafter. She was a member of the YWCA where she volunteered as a swimming instructor and served on the board of directors from 1983-1987. She will always be remembered for her loyalty to family and friends, her generosity, her talents, her grace, and her unending compassion for others. She is dearly missed, but her loving spirit lives on within the soul of the Aurora Arts Theatre.
