The Flip Side, short plays
by TILT Performance Group
May. 28 - Jun. 05, 2015
Thursdays-Saturdays
In January, TILT and Ground Floor Theatre put out a call for submissions for their upcoming collaborative production, The Flip Side.
The ingredients we asked for:
- The plays should be approximately ten minutes in length and written to be performed by 1-3 actors.
- The plays should take the form of fairy tales, allegories, fables, or similar genres that make use of heightened, fanciful environments, characters, language, narratives, and modes of storytelling.
- The plays should focus in some way on the "flip side," i.e. novel vantage points on otherness: what might the grass look like on the other side? what exactly is (an)other? who lives on the other side of the tracks?
TILT Performance Group and Ground Floor Theatre are bringing to Central Texas a collection of 6 original 10-minute plays on the theme of possibility. The Flip Side aims to ask: What might the grass look like on the other side? What exactly is (an)other? Who lives on the other side of the tracks?
These pieces were chosen from more than 100 submissions by playwrightsfrom across the globe. From these submissions, 6 plays were selected to be showcased in The Flip Side: An Evening of Ten-Minute Tales. The plays highlight themes of looking at life from angles that are uncommon to many people. These new works are given special treatment by the incredible, uniquely-abled company of TILT Performance Group in an experience not to be missed.
Plays that comprise The Flip Side include: “The Interview” by Gwen K. Adams (Kingston, WA), “Break Dreams” by Cricket Daniel (Bend, OR), “Nephrology” by Sara Ilyse Jacobson (Charlottesville, VA), “Lisa and Peter” by Carol S. Lashof (Berkeley, CA), and “The Green is Always Greener on the Greener Side” by Ron Riekki (Leesburg, FL) and “Transformation Assignment” by local playwright Kristin Hall.
