Color Arc Productions returns to the Asian American Resource Center (AARC) with a live script reading of Romeo and Katrina, a musical set four years after Hurricane Katrina devastated the city of New Orleans. This musical crosses the Mississippi River to bridge two lovers from Westbank and Eastbank New Orleans: Romeo Tran and Katrina Batiste. 

Our Vietnamese American and Black cast of Austin actors will perform a live reading of a new script by Austin playwright Christine Hoang, directed by Mikala Gibson, with musical accompaniment by Tyler Mabry, and a new finale song with bounce beats by Johann Solo.

PBS American Portrait featured our 2021 Romeo and Katrina virtual presentation in their episode I Rise. Color Arc Productions and the AARC presented a musical workshop to a live audience in 2022.

Romeo and Katrina is an uplifting exploration of community, life, and finding light in dark places. It is inspired by Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet and Hamlet, and addresses central themes of suicide and grief.
