The play is a psychological murder mystery with Agatha Christie at her cleverest. Christie, considered the best-selling novelist of all time and a record-breaking playwright, originally wrote this story as a novel for Hercule Poirot; but, when she devised the play, she came up with a new detective as well as a new murderer.

Mystery and music come to the Draylen Mason Studio, the new KMFA performance space,  for a theatrical staged reading of Agatha Christie’s The Hollow, including solo jazz violin accompaniment.

“I am in love with the play’s powerful engine of surprises, and Christie’s vibrant palette of enthralling characters.” -Ann Ciccolella, Artistic Director

At a weekend gathering at The Hollow, a classic English country house, guests attend pre-dinner cocktails as the attractive, charismatic Dr. John Cristow (Sam Grimes) finds himself surrounded by an old flame, his wife, and his current mistress as the mystery unfolds. The charming Inspector Colquhoun and his down-to-earth assistant Sergeant Penny must try to follow Christie’s well-crafted twists and turns to unmask the killer.

Nearly everyone has a motive, but only one of them did it.

The cast includes Janelle Buchanan as the comic Grande Dame, Lucy Angkatell; Sam Grimes as the charismatic romantic center of the trouble; Meredith O’Brien as his naïve, devoted wife; Helen Merino as Gerda, his mistress (the fascinating sculptress); and Helyn Rain Messenger as Veronica, his former lover (the glamorous Hollywood actress).

Jazz violin accompaniment will be played by Bennie Braswell; and the cast’s lineup is further rounded out by Ev Lunning Jr. as Sir Henry Angkatell, Rachel Wolff as Midge (the ingénue), Derek Webster as Gudgeon the butler, and Joe Kelley as Edward Angkatell.

Lighting design by resident designer Patrick W. Anthony.
