Cymbeline
by Rosedale Shakespeare

Jun. 06 - Jun. 22, 2019
Thursdays-Saturdays

This June Something for Nothing Theater takes on a new and thrilling challenge. We will perform Shakespeare’s Cymbeline with just five actors playing all 32 characters! Sometimes called “extreme casting,” this production style demands clear storytelling, simple and elegant design, and versatile acting. It distills theatre down to its most basic elements: bodies moving in space, creating a story that comes to life in the spectators’ imaginations. This focused approach fits perfectly with Cymbeline, a sprawling fairy tale whose characters are much larger than life. Through the magic of extreme casting, Something for Nothing will give you a highly entertaining take on this lively romp through the classic Shakespearean themes of forbidden romance, dangerous deception, and dramatic revelations of hidden identity, among others. Who will the young lover Posthumus choose to trust when his wife’s faith is tested? How will our heroine Imogen survive in the harsh wilderness after fleeing mortal danger at court? Will King Cymbeline and the British army triumph over the invading legions of Rome? Find out in Ramsey Park starting June 6!

The tradition of free Shakespeare in Ramsey Park continues with our 2019 spring show. As always, our show will be under two hours. Bring a blanket or chairs, pack a picnic, invite some friends, and join us!

For this production, we have three brilliant returning actors and two exciting new talents:

Joseph Clingan (Cymbeline, Iachimo, and more!) starred as the tortured Troilus in our spring 2017 production of Troilus and Cressida.

Heidi Penix (Cloten, Belarius, and more!) played the witty fool-for-love Benedick in 2017’s Much Ado about Nothing and the foolish wit Malvolio in Twelfth Night.

Katie Beth Stubbs (Queen, Guiderius, and more!) tickled us all as Sir Andrew Aguecheek in last spring’s Twelfth Night.

Anna Maria Ward (Imogen, Philario, and more!)  studied Theatre and Dance at UT Austin. She performed as the mischievous Puck in Ovation Theatre’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

Patrick Aaron Harris (Posthumus, Pisanio, and more!) holds an MFA in Shakespeare and Performance from Mary Baldwin University. He played the devious Claudius in Sweet Wag Shakespeare’s Hamlet.

Our production team, too, mingles old and new faces:

Deb Streusand, our Artistic Director, will direct Cymbeline, her fifth play for S4N.

Daniel Sullivan, our Costume Designer for Macbeth, will bring his keen eye for simple, powerful choices to this production.

Lemons Clemons, Associate Artistic Director, will dramaturg her third production with us.

Toby Minor, of Violent Crown, will craft beautiful violence for as Fight Choreographer, as he did for Romeo and Juliet and Twelfth Night.

Ciera Rena Terry, a new talent in Austin, will brighten our tale as Lighting Designer.

Mindy Klein, usually seen in the black garb of a stage manager, will showcase her multiple talents as our Set and Props Designer.

Laura Spraggins, who has worked with The Hidden Room and Glass Half Full Theatre, will keep us all on track as Stage Manager.
