Funding Appeal: GEN AND MABEL at the Jump-Start Performance Company, San Antonio, May 31 - June 9, 2018

 

Jump-Start Performance Co. a non-profit theater, is producing a new play, "Gen and Mabel"  by Leta Tremblay and directed by Holly Nañes.  This is the second time we will be attempting to produce the play. The first time,  one of the actresses had a serious injury and we had to postpone the show.  We desire to honor the audience, previous donors, and the playwright,  and bring something new to the San Antonio, TX stage.

 

"Gen and Mabel" is about two women who like each other. A whole lot. So why can’t this relationship seem to get off the ground? As they try to shortcut their way to intimacy by baring their souls, they break each other’s hearts repeatedly in tiny, devastating ways – and then come back together. A story about trust, lust, and the quest for connection."

Starring Alyson Lopez as Gen, Catherine Carlisle as Mabel, and Sam Weeks as James. 

We are raising funds to cover some of the production costs and to provide a generous stipend to all artists involved.  Each evening will be hosted by a queer woman within the community who will speak candidly about one of her battle stories in the realm of coming out, political activism, relationships, and the nitty-gritty of relationships.  The last evening of the production, June 9, will be followed by  Critical Response Process in which the audience will comment and discuss the cultural importance of providing more live work that is Lesbian Centric in the city of San Antonio, TX.
