The Beauty Queen of Leenane
by University of the Incarnate Word
Feb. 20 - Feb. 28, 2015
Isolated in the rocky hills of western Ireland, Maureen cares for her aging mother, Mag. Mag is almost totally dependent on daughter Maureen, who wants nothing more than her freedom. Award-winning playwright Martin McDonagh captures Mag and Maureen's dysfunctional relationship in his darkly comic play that swings quickly from outrageous laughter to almost unimaginable brutality as it pursues this question: Will Maureen find love and gain her freedom, and, if she does, what will become of Mag?
UIW presents Martin McDonagh's riveting play The Beauty Queen of Leenane, February 20-28 in its Cheever Theatre. The production features New York stage and screen actress Laura Poe who has appeared in feature films with Jeff Bridges and Matt Damon as well as in TV series such as House of Cards, Nurse Jackie, Law and Order and many others.
The UIW production team includes ATAC award recipients Rick Malone (Sound), Margaret Mitchell (Scenery), Melissa Gaspar (Lighting), and Robert Ball (Direction).
