Farce of Nature
by City Theatre Company
Oct. 24 - Nov. 16, 2014
If comedies are your favorite choice of theatre, then Farce of Nature is sure to please! From Jessie Jones, Nicholas Hope, and Jamie Wooten, the successful writing team that brought you Dearly Beloved, Christmas Belles, and The Dixie Swim Club, comes the newest laugh-'til-your-sides-ache Southern-friend farce. The City Theatre Company is excited to open its 2014 - 2015 theatre season with the hilarious comedy, October 24 - November 16 at The City Theatre.
Why would someone hide a gun in a refrigerator? Know what, better you don't tell me!" - Carmine, Farce of Nature
Critics, audiences and theatre-goers have fallen in love with Jones Hope Wooten comedies. They stuff their plays with comic invention, running gags, and a neat sense of southern absurdity. In their newest show, hilarity accelerates by the minute. Come meet the Wilburn family of Mayhew, Arkansas, and spend an outrageously funny day at The Reel 'Em Inn, finest little fishing lodge in the Ozarks. Can the lodge be saved from gangsters, love-starved females, jealous husbands, ruthless corporate executives, bad Swedish accents, a cranky senior citizen maid packing heat, a jittery man masquerading as a woman, and vicious varmints right outside the door? A deliciously funny romp ensues, and by the delightfully chaotic climax of this one remarkable day, love has blossomed, truths have been revealed and the lives of all - family, guests and gangsters alike - change in incredible and surprising ways.
The show features veterans of the City Theatre stage including Kim Rubin, Cindy Brown, Skip Johnson, Tracy Hurd, Craig Kanne, Don Owen, and Katie Trammell with newcomers Roman Garcia and Rebecca Wooldridge. Guest director Andy Brown leads the cast having previously directed CTC’s highly successful Moon Over Buffalo in 2013. He has directed locally in Austin including productions at the Sam Bass Theatre and the Georgetown Palace.
The City Theatre Company is an Austin-based, not-for-profit arts organization and is sponsored in part by the Austin Creative Alliance and the Austin Cultural Arts Division.
