If You Give A Mouse A Cookie
by Magik Theatre
Oct. 03 - Oct. 26
With a bag of cookies and a good spot in the yard to read his comic book, Boy was ready for a perfectly peaceful day. But then, Mouse came! He may be adorable but he is full of questions. And energy. And he’s hungry. What can Boy do but give Mouse a cookie? Wouldn’t you do the same thing? But, if you give a mouse a cookie, he’s going to want a glass of milk. Jodi Davidson's adaptation is a mayhem and mishap-filled joyride for all audiences!
Magik Theatre opens its new season with a beloved treat that will have audiences of all ages laughing, smiling and demanding more silliness! If You Give a Mouse a Cookie marks the start of Magik’s 2026-27 season, opening on Saturday, October 3 with a sweet party and running through October 25. Guests can savor Magik’s remarkable renovations, completed just this summer, and new season ticket options make it easy to save room for plenty more performances from Magik’s slate of acclaimed productions featuring “fun, fantastical friends.”
Laura Numeroff’s If You Give a Mouse a Cookie has been charming generations since the picture book’s release in 1985. Adapted by Jodi Davidson, Magik’s version recounts the simple tale of a boy whose peaceful afternoon of cookies and comics is interrupted by a mouse whose simple request snowballs into a zany, cause-and-effect adventure.
“This production is fun, silly and full of slapstick humor,” says Director Pam Ramirez. A professional clown whose resume includes Ringling Brothers, Barnum and Bailey Circus and studying at the world-renowned Dell Arte School of Physical Theatre, Ramirez was the perfect choice to lead If You Give a Mouse a Cookie.
“I’m especially thrilled that our production will be filled with physical comedy, led by circus-trained Director Pam Ramirez,” said Magik Theatre Artistic Director Collin Pittmann. “The endless funny bits brilliantly executed by Michael Roberts (Mouse) and Christopher Deuter (Boy) will make you giggle for 50 minutes straight,” he promised.
While the story is famed for its repetition and circularity, Magik’s hour-long production is anything but boring. For instance, Ramirez and company have created a comic book story-within-a-story packed with excitement and suspense. Eager audiences are invited to attend the opening day Party in the Park at Hemisfair on Saturday, October 3, with plenty of pint sized fun for the whole family.
REJUVENATING MAGIK, ALL YEAR LONG
Guests who did not get to glimpse Magik’s major renovation over the summer will find even more to love about the theatre. The multimillion-dollar effort quadrupled ADA-accessible seating, improved entry points and upgraded electrical, plumbing and security systems. Theater seats, carpet and HVAC are brand-new. The upper and lower lobbies have a fresh coat of paint, new carpet and the theater’s main exterior doors are now wrapped in colorful signage that mark where the outside world ends and Magik begins.
An exciting schedule of updated classics complements the theater’s bold physical changes. Joining Mouse and Boy for the 2026-27 season are the Grinch, Frog and Toad, Pinocchio, Charlotte the Spider, the Cat in the Hat and many more beloved characters. Music lovers can rejoice with a special subscription to all four musicals this season: How the Grinch Stole Christmas, A Year with Frog and Toad, Pinocchio (a collaboration with OPERA San Antonio) and Seussical the Musical. Season ticket holders secure seats to all of the above, plus If You Give a Mouse a Cookie and Charlotte’s Web in what is Magik’s biggest season yet. As ever, schools and educational groups can schedule curriculum-connected student matinee performances October 1-23 by contacting info@magiktheatre.org.
Get things started with October’s If You Give a Mouse a Cookie, running October 3 through 25. But don’t be surprised if you see that play, you’ll want to attend The Grinch Who Stole Christmas. And if you attend The Grinch Who Stole Christmas you’ll simply have to go to A Year with Frog and Toad. And … you get the idea!
