Frankie and Johnnie
by Summer Break Theatre
Mar. 26 - Apr. 04
Thursdays-Saturdays
In Frankie’s apartment on Manhattan’s West Side, she and her colleague Johnny are in bed together. It is their first encounter, and Frankie is hopeful that Johnny will now put on his clothes and leave but Johnny, a compulsive talker (and romantic) has other ideas. She’s had more disappointments than delights in life, he’s the veteran of one broken marriage already, and neither of them is in the bloom of youth. But as the evening unfolds, the promise of a relationship beyond a “one-night stand” begins to emerge. This bittersweet comedy combines hope and humor as it traces the unlikely romance that develops between two wounded hearts.
Frankie and Johnny tells the story of two lost souls finding each other after a life-time of heartache, searching for the courage to take a chance on love one more time in this romantic comedy by Terrence McNally.
Directed by Monroe Oxley and Yaakov Abrams, and starring Maggie Meador and James Young,
About Summer Break Theatre
- Summer Break Theatre is Austin's only theatre company created for and by Austin educators.
- SBT proudly provides FREE tickets to Teachers, grades K-12 for all performances.
- This production boasts a cast and crew made up almost entirely of theatre artists that are also local educators.
Summer Break Theatre produces events that serve the overworked and under-resourced Austin area teaching community. Through our productions, we aim to provide creative outlets and celebrate the vital work of teachers, while raising funds that support them both inside and outside the classroom.
