Leopoldstadt is a stirring and epic story of love, family, and enduring bravery. In Vienna, the heart of European culture at the rise of the 20th century, two brothers have conflicting visions of prosperity – both for their family and the Jewish people – a tension that will echo through the generations that follow.
From romantic comedy to tragedy, explore this extended Jewish family in Vienna in 1899, 1929, 1938 and finally in 1955 when a young man returns home,” said Artistic Director Ann Ciccolella. “The family rose to the heights of society only to ultimately discover the hollowness of their acceptance.”
This Theatre Authority-approved reading features a cast of 25 actors, including Actors’ Equity members: Brian Coughlin*, Shelby Davenport*, André Martin* and Sarita Ocón*; Austin Shakespeare Alumni: Sam Grimes, Andrew Matthews, A. Y. Oza, Aliya Qureshi, Lucas Schwartz and Peter Shine; and new to the company: Laraine Lasdon, Laura Mazer and Jane Schwartz. With costume enhancement by Cecelia Gay, lighting design by Patrick W.
