Fresh Takes on Gilbert & Sullivan, Episode 4
by Gilbert & Sullivan Austin
Oct. 19 - Nov. 19, 2021
For its final "Fresh Takes" episode for 2021, Gilbert & Sullivan Austin commissioned three sequences from Austin theatre artists:
-- the famous "string of pearls" sequence from Princess Ida, in which three eager men disguise themselves as maidens in order to sneak into Princess Ida's all-female "Ida Voice University" (Helen Sohyun Park uses the Butler School of Music at the University of Texas to full advantage with her five-person cast).
-- Co-artistic Director Lisa Scheps of Ground Floor Theatre performs an Alan Sherman parody of a well known G&S number to Barb Jernigan's whimsical illustrations, thanks to ingenious editing by Marcelo Tesón
-- Admired Austin theatre director Liz Fisher riffs on Yeomen of the Guard with Amber Quick as the jester Point, Sarah Marie Curry as Elsie, and secondary characters created by Caroline Reck of Glass Half Full Theatre Company
With an intro and an "outro" by Michael Meigs of CTXLiveTheatre.com.
