The two "gentlemen" of the title are Proteus and Valentine, who are taking leave of one another as the play opens. Valentine travels to Milan, where he falls in love with Silvia, daughter of the Duke. In coordination with the City of Austin’s Artist Access Program and Zilker Hillside Theatre, Young Shakespeare’s The Two Gentlemen of Verona will be co-hosted by The Long Center for the Performing Arts.
Austin Shakespeare’s teenage cast brings back their successful 2020 summer production of Shakespeare’s rollicking comedy set in the psychedelic 1960s! Twelve young actors do it all online: rehearsals, vocal training, stage combat lessons, text analysis . . . and then, they perform before a live audience.
Young Shakespeare is the crown jewel of Austin Shakespeare’s youth education programs. Now in its 12th year, numerous students from the program have gone on to college and professional careers inspired by their experiences here.
