Willy Wonka
by Magik Theatre
May. 03 - Jun. 08, 2019
The Magik Theatre presents Roald Dahl’s Willy Wonka, bringing fresh flair to the timeless story as a celebration of the theatre’s 25th Anniversary season. This will mark the fifth staging of the production in the company’s history, incorporating familiar faces and showcasing local actor John Stillwaggon in the title role.
“Taking on the role of Willy Wonka is a lifelong dream come true,” resident actor John Stillwaggon explains. “The world of his chocolate factory is the spectacle of the show, but his message is what makes the story so timeless. Beyond the songs and characters that everyone loves, Willy Wonka really illustrates that gratitude and appreciation are the keys to happiness.”
Roald Dahl’s timeless story of the world famous candy man and his quest to find an heir comes to chocolate-covered life. The delicious adventures experienced by Charlie Bucket on his visit to Willy Wonka’s mysterious chocolate factory light up the stage in this captivating adaptation of Roald Dahl’s fantastical tale. Featuring the enchanting songs from the 1971 film starring Gene Wilder and new songs by Leslie Bricusse (Jekyll & Hyde, Doctor Dolittle) and Anthony Newley, Roald Dahl’s Willy Wonka is a scrumdiddlyumptious musical guaranteed to delight everyone’s sweet tooth.
The Magik Theatre is celebrating its 25th anniversary during the 2018-2019 season, sponsored by H-E-B. Roald Dahl’s Willy Wonka is sponsored in part by the Russell Hill Rogers Fund for the Arts. Special thanks to the City of San Antonio Department of Arts and Culture.
