Fun Home
by Ground Floor Theatre

Dec. 06 - Dec. 22, 2018
Thursdays-Sundays

When her father dies unexpectedly, graphic novelist Alison dives deep into her past to tell the story of the volatile, brilliant, one-of-a-kind man whose temperament and secrets defined her family and her life. Moving between past and present, Alison relives her unique childhood playing at the family’s Bechdel Funeral Home, her growing understanding of her own sexuality, and the looming, unanswerable questions about her father’s hidden desires. Fun Home is a refreshingly honest, wholly original musical about seeing your parents through grown-up eyes.

Ground Floor Theatre, Central Texas’ newest theatre company announces its musical production of 2018, the Tony Award winning musical FUN HOME with book and lyrics by Lisa Kron and music by Jeanine Tesori.

Fun Home introduces us to Alison at three different ages, revealing memories of her uniquely dysfunctional family – her mother, brothers and volatile, brilliant, enigmatic father – that connect with her in surprising new ways. This intimate and emotional theatrical experience is performed entirely in the round, bringing audiences closer to Alison’s story than ever before. A refreshingly honest musical about seeing your parents through grown-up eyes.

In addition to Sandra Mae Frank as Joan, the cast includes: Sarah Marie Curry as Alison, Taylor Flannigan as Medium Alison, Mariela Denson as Small Alison, James Lindsay as Bruce, Alejandra Murga as Helen, Dave Hawk as Roy/Mark, etc., Devin Gramling as Christian and Eric Judge as John.

Ground Floor Theatre Founder and Co-Director Lisa Scheps directs with musical direction by Adam Roberts, choreography by Kelsey Oliver, scenic design by Ia Ensterä, lighting design by Natalie George, costume design by Pamela Fletcher-Friday and prop design by Patti Neff-Tiven.

“I am elated to be producing and directing this amazing musical. It is a funny and impactful story that touches me on so many levels…as a daughter, sister and member of the LGBTQ community,” Scheps says. “Alison Bechdel, Lisa Kron, and Jeannine Tesori have created a masterpiece and Ground Floor Theatre is thrilled to be producing it for Austin audiences.”

She views this musical as an ideal project for Ground Floor Theatre, whose mission is to present work by and for underrepresented communities. “I cannot tell you how thrilled we are to be the first in Texas to be able to produce this groundbreaking and heartwarming musical. Fun Home fits beautifully within our mission of presenting works by and for underrepresented communities,” Scheps says.
