The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee
by Sam Bass Theatre Association
May. 12 - Jun. 03, 2017
Thursdays-Sundays
The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee has charmed audiences across the country with its effortless wit and humor. Featuring a fast-paced wildly funny and touching book by Rachel Sheinkin and a truly fresh and vibrant score by William Finn, this bee is one unforgettable experience. An eclectic group of six mid-pubescents vie for the spelling championship of a lifetime. While candidly disclosing hilarious and touching stories from their home life, the tweens spell their way through a series of [potentially made-up] words hoping to never hear the soul-crushing, pout-inducing, life un-affirming "ding" of the bell that signals a spelling mistake. Six spellers enter; one speller leaves! At least the losers get a juice box. A riotous ride complete with audience participation, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee is delightful den of comedic genius.
Directed by Eric Nelson. Stage Manager is Anika Leven.

Sam Bass Theatre is excited to present our spring musical THE 25TH ANNUAL PUTNAM COUNTY SPELLING BEE as part of our 2016/2017 Main Stage Season. This production of THE 25TH ANNUAL PUTNAM COUNTY SPELLING BEE will be directed by Eric Nelson who currently serves as Sam Bass Theatre’s Technical Director and has been a part of Sam Bass Theatre for many years now, directing many of our various productions including God’s Favorite, Nunsense the Musical, and The Boys Next Door for which Mr. Nelson was nominated for the Central Texas Excellence In Theatre Awards for Best Direction of a Play. Mr. Nelson has been involved in every aspect of running Sam Bass Theatre for the past 5 years, doing everything from landscaping, to running the box office, as well as serving on the board in various capacities of the organization. When asked about why Mr. Nelson took on this particular show he said “This show is just plain old fashioned fun! Every song is full of energy and in the end there is a beautiful story that will touch your heart.”
Eric Nelson is excited about his all star cast saying “This cast is fantastic, every single actor is so talented it is breathtaking!” This show is filled with incredible songs and hilarious moments reminding us of the turmoil and struggles every adult has survived through adolescence.
