La Cenerentola

or Cinderella

by Rossini

Once upon a time….. Celebrating its 200th anniversary, the folk tale known throughout the world, made popular by the Brothers Grimm, Cinderella was brought to life in 1817.  Rossini’s take on the Cinderella story is no simplistic fairy tale. There’s no pumpkin coach and no glass slipper, and in place of a fairy godmother there’s a wise old philosopher who wants his handsome prince to marry not just the fairest of them all but also the best and the kindest. There’s no shortage of magical enchantment in the miraculous score, which happily marries high comedy and heartfelt emotion. Sung in English.

Sung in English with Full Orchestra and English supertitles.

Pre-curtain discussion 45-minutes prior to curtain time.
