Penny Dime Productions

Penny Dime Productions is the brainchild of Megan Sherrod, Cristina Flores, and a couple of tacos. Megan and Cristina originally met at an opera program in Taos, New Mexico and reconnected five years later. After several years pursuing opera, they both found themselves exploring theatre, film, improv, and Meisner technique in Austin, TX. They were inspired to create their own performance opportunities that combined their passions --singing and truthful storytelling. They're excited to begin sharing a repertoire of shows with you.

Megan Sherrod is a classically trained mezzo soprano, actor, and improviser. Her past roles include: Cathy Hiatt in The Last Five Years, Cousin Hebe in HMS Pinafore, Cherubino in The Marriage of Figaro, Kate in The Pirates of Penzance, Vera Boronel in The Consul, Suzy in La Rondine, Cipera in The Cage Affair, and La Suora Infermiera in Suor Angelica.

Since her arrival in Austin, Megan has plunged headfirst into improvised theatre.  Her improvised theatre credits include: The Fool's Well (Institution Theater), Boy, Howdy! (Hideout Theatre), Nothing and Everything: Improvised Anton Chekhov Plays (The Long Center and Hideout Theatre), Happily Ever After: Improvised Musicals Inspired by Disney Classics (Hideout Theatre), Buzz Band (Institution Theater), Maestro (Hideout Theatre), and The Fancy-Pants Mashup (Hideout Theatre).

Megan completed her Master of Music in voice performance at the University of North Texas where she studied with Dr. Carol Wilson.  She received her Bachelor of Music in vocal performance at Oklahoma City University as a student of Larry Wade Keller.  She attended the Taos Opera Institute, Si parla, si canta Italian Program, the University Of Miami Frost School Of Music at Salzburg, and the Key West Symphony Young Artist Program.

Megan performs regularly in concerts, recitals, fundraisers, and weddings. She also provides private voice lessons and improv coaching.

Cristina Flores is a coloratura soprano, film, commercial, theater, and voice actress. She has been seen performing with the Texas State Opera Theatre, Spotlight on Opera, Taos Opera Institute, and Austin Opera chorus. Her past roles include: Flora in Turn of the Screw, Greta Fiorentino in Street Scene, and Maria in West Side Story. She's frequently seen performing comedic non-traditional opera skits with One Ounce Opera across Austin. Cristina has been invited as a special guest to sing the national anthem for the Detroit Tigers game in Detroit, MI and for Malawian President Joyce Banda.

Cristina studied Vocal Performance at Texas State University under the tutelage of the lovely Cheryl Parrish. Currently Cristina is exploring Meisner Character Study with Laurel Vouvray and has been seen starring in film, television, voice-overs, and commercials featured in Austin, India, and Nicaragua.

When Cristina is not performing, she is actively involved in the national service community as the Recruitment and Outreach Coordinator for an AmeriCorps program called Literacy First. She teaches bilingual music with Armstrong Community Music School and spends the rest of her time adoring her maltese, Panchito.
