Un Cuento de Luces y Sombras (A Tale of Lights and Shadows) is an operetta in three acts, with libretto by Germán Barboza, about the fight between two Lands: the Land of lights and the Land of shadows. Kira, the queen of light, is in a war against Sombras, the king of shadows, while Zara and Adrik -their heirs- fall deeply in love defying the rules set by Zola – dame of the Earth - that dictated the two worlds keep completely separate. That's the way things are supposed to be, or at least how they thought it was best.
Its center topic is racism and the rejection that we constantly suffer from others when we are supposed to be united. The 6 characters and their musical lines show the desire to explore something different besides what they are used to, their fears, and their love. Once they are together, lights and shadows create colors, they create life. That is the way things are meant to be.

*Un Cuento de Luces y Sombras es una opereta en tres actos, con libreto de Germán Barboza,sobre la pelea entre dos reinos: el reino de la luz y el reino de las sombras. Kira, la reina de la luz, está en guerra con Sombras, rey de las sombras, mientras Zara y Adrik -los herederos- se enamoran desafiando las reglas puestas por Zola -dama de la Tierra- que dictan que nadie del otro lado del mundo puede reunirse.
El tema principal es el racismo y el rechazo que constantemente sufrimos en vez de estar unidos. Los 6 personajes y sus líneas musicales demuestran el deseo de explorar algo distinto, sus miedos, y su amor. Una vez que se reúnen, luces y sombras crean colores, crean vida. Es así cómo las cosas deben ser.

LOLA is seeking to collaborate with opera singers of all voice types for a semi-staged workshop of the new Spanish-language operetta, *Un Cuento de Luces y Sombras composed by Carlos Cordero with libretto by Germán Barboza.
