Summer and Bird

Austin Playhouse is accepting submissions for roles in Summer and Bird by Katherine Catmull. The play is part of the Austin Playhouse Theatre for Families series. Local author Katherine Catmull is adapting this world premiere production of her novel Summer and Bird.


 

Austin Playhouse will schedule auditions March 14 – 16, 2019.

Daytime availability is required. Most rehearsals will be daytime weekdays and weekends, April 9 – 29.

Performances begin on April 30. Performance schedule includes 10 am school performances April 30 – May 10 (Tuesdays – Fridays). Additional public performances are May 3 at 7:30, May 4 at 2 pm and 7:30 pm, May 5 at 2 pm, May 10 at 7:30 pm, May 11 at 2 pm and 7:30 pm, and May 12 at 2 pm. 

All roles will be performed by adults 18+. All actors are paid.

Primary roles available: (all actors may double smaller roles)


Summer, the older sister
Bird, the younger sister
Ben, a phoenix, kindly and mysterious, possibly like Mr. Rogers on acid
Mom, a swan queen
The Puppeteer, the pretender to the throne, elegant, manipulative
The Raven, a trickster forced to play it straight to help the girls
Dad, an ornithologist
