The Fantasticks
by Temple Civic Theatre

Oct. 07 - Oct. 16, 2016
Fridays-Sundays

Come and see our first Main Series Production of the 50th Anniversary season! "The Fantasticks" is a classic musical with some really talented performers cast in the roles.

The show, with music by Harvey Schmidt and lyrics by Tom Jones, was the first musical ever presented by the theatre. The last TCT production of the show was in November 1993. Songs include "Try to Remember" (the kind of September when life was slow and oh, so mellow.)

The story concerns two neighboring fathers who trick their children, Luisa and Matt, into falling in love by pretending to feud. The fathers hire traveling actors to stage a mock abduction, so that Matt can heroically seem to save Luisa, ending the supposed feud.
When the children discover the deception, they reject the arranged love match and separate. Each then gains disillusioning experiences of the real world, seen in parallel fantasy sequences. They return to each other bruised but enlightened, and they renew their vows with more maturity.
