Award-winning writer/director Caroline Reck presents her latest work, Missionary Position: Pleasure Journeys for the Intrepid Lady Explorer (Session Two).  (Session One was presented in 2013 at SVT).

 

Amelia Weatherbeaten (Caroline Reck) and Eleanor Dangerbottom (Cami Alys) are Victorian-era Lady Explorers and Spokeswomen for Hartman’s Hygenic Towellettes for Ladies, the first commercially available menstrual products for women. They travel around the world at the turn of the 19th century, hocking their products and lecturing hilariously on topics of interest to the Society of Learned Ladies, Where Ladies Share Knowledge with Ladies. (That’s you.)  They have arrived with their collection of travel curios to set you straight on what you thought you didn't think you needed to know. Part P.T. Barnum sideshow, part Victorian Geographical Salon, these ladies will offer a seat at their table but you won’t stay in it for long. Anticipate a raucous, interactive, inventive evening that kicks the stuffing out of stuffy, um, “period” theater.

 

Caroline Reck, Writer/Director (winner of multiple B Iden Payne & Austin Critic’s Table awards for Original Script and Outstanding Direction) has teamed up with Cami Alys (Intergalactic Nemesis, Industry Night) to devise this original series featuring themselves as the lady explorers, with Jay Byrd (September 10^th – 20^th) and Rudy Ramirez (September 24^th-26^th) as the Grande Dames of the Society for Learned Ladies. Sound by K. Eliot Haynes, Lighting by Sadie Langenkamp, Costumes by Pam Friday, puppets by Caroline Reck.

            

ABOUT THE COMPANY: Glass Half Full Theatre (Puppetry and Physical Theatre of Objects and Ideas) was created in Paris, France in 2004 by graduates of the École Jacques Lecoq, and has performed in site-specific and theatrical venues in Europe and the United States. Now proudly based in Austin, Texas, we are a sponsored project of Austin Creative Alliance and are funded in part by the Jim Henson Foundation, The Creative Fund, The City of Austin, and The Puppet Slam Network. Since our first full theatrical season in Austin 2011, the company has earned two B. Iden Payne Awards (Direction of a Comedy and Original Script) and two Austin Critic’s Table Awards (Cohen New Play Award and the Visionary Vivifier Award), with a total of 26 nominations in a variety of categories, as well as multiple mentions from the Chronicle’s “Best Of” lists.
