John Gabriel Borkman

Jun. 24 - Jul. 16, 2016
Thursdays-Sundays
Different Stages closes its 2015-2016 season with Ibsen's John Gabriel Borkman. It is the all too timely tale of a man who was once wealthy, powerful and revered, but is now disgraced and destitute after a financial scandal and prison. His estranged and embittered wife plots for their son to restore the family's reputation. Their lives are shattered once and for all with the unexpected arrival of his wife's twin sister Ella, with a shocking proposal. Their story, like almost all the stories Ibsen tells, is a dark one, but shot through with Ibsen's sly humor.
Directed by Norman Blumensaadt (Fallen Angels), Borkman features Ev Lunning (She Loves Me) as the disgraced bank director. The twin sisters Gunhild and Ella are played by Jan Phillips (Well) and Katherine Schroeder (Fallen Angels). Borkman’s childhood friend and his daughter are played by Garry Peters (All the Way) and Hannah Rutt (Young Shakespeare). Borkman’s son and his lady friend are played by Sebastian Garcia (Man for All Seasons) and Circe Sturm (The Language Archive). Mrs. Borkman’s maid is played by Bethany Harbaugh (Night Must Fall).
