Austin Babtist Women Are Back on Stage
April 5th, 2015 for 28th Annual “GospelFest”
The now-legendary Austin Babtist Women will don their Easter bonnets – along with their best polyester dresses and Dynel wigs – for an evening of spirit-raising entertainment. The “ladies” will be joined by nationally renowned singers and performers for this annual one-of-a-kind production.
For the past 28 years, the Austin-based actors who portray The Austin Babtist Women inhabit the personas of little old church ladies and perform elaborately choreographed, side-splitting routines – all to raise money for AIDS/HIV and breast cancer charities. The troupe have performed coast-to-coast, appeared on Broadway, headlined in Las Vegas and Reno, and raised more than $8 million for charity along the way.
The Austin Babtist Women stage three signature shows per year in Austin, Texas: “GospelFest” on Easter Sunday, “The Anniversary Celebration” in September and the legendary “A Very Pink Christmas” in December. During the remainder of the year, the troupe tours throughout Texas and the nation – as schedules allow – to headline at theatres, nightclubs, comedy clubs, state-wide events, and anywhere an organization needs the Austin Babtist Women’s unique brand of comedy.
The Austin Babtist Women have been honored with many awards over the years including the 2000 Human Rights Campaign’s Service and Leadership Award, The City of Austin’s 2002 Philanthropic Organization of the Year, a Day of Honor from the City of New Orleans and Resolution #886 from the Texas House of Representatives. They have twice won the coveted Gay Appreciation Awards’ Entertainer of the Year, been honored by the International Court System and have proudly served as Grand Marshall of the Austin Pride Parade and the Texas Gay Rodeo.

The all-volunteer male comedy fundraising troupe The Austin Babtist Women will stage their 28th annual “GospelFest” variety show on Easter Sunday, April 5th, starting at 7:00 p.m. at Austin nightclub Bout Time II. The performance benefits The Wright House Wellness Center.
