Love's Labor's Lost (the musical)
by The Theatre Company (TTC)
Apr. 10 - Apr. 26
Fridays-Sundays
Romance, revelry, and enchanting music ignite in this contemporary, yet lovingly faithful, musical adaptation of Shakespeare's comedy. Using the original text, Love's Labour's Lost reunites Obie Award winner, Michael Friedman (Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson, The Fortress of Solitude) and two-time Tony Award nominee, Alex Timbers (Peter and the Starcatcher) as they bring their one-of-a-kind sensibility to the immortal words of the Bard.
The King and his best buds decide at their five-year college reunion to swear off the joys of women. But when four cute, clever girls from their past show up, they're forced to reconsider all of that nonsense! Add in an outlandish Spanish exchange student, a performance art-loving professor, and an entire brass band, and love and devotion are put to the test with hilarious results.
Shakespeare’s plays have endured for centuries because they capture fundamental truths about human nature and experience, especially love. This second production of TTC’s Season 36.5, “Extended Family,” features the best comic genius of Shakespeare, updated and set to popular music—witty dialogue, mistaken identities, and star-crossed lovers. The story demonstrates how “the course of true love never did run true,” even though this knowledge never keeps us from falling in love.
In this acclaimed musical adaptation, four college friends (Jackson Reasoner, Beau Cochran, Michael Knighton, and Keith Owen) swear an oath to avoid women and focus on their studies for three years. Their vow is tested the moment four beautiful women from their past appear on the scene (Kayson Hergert, Tilly Hillje, Coral Suess, and Makayla Cox). Of course, the men each fall in love, breaking their oaths. The usual witty and wacky Shakespearean comedy ensues. Set to lively music and exuberant choreography, LOVE’S LABOUR’S LOST entertains us and offers a lighthearted and refreshing escape. The show is suitable for all ages but will appeal especially to adults of all ages.
