The Battle of Bamber Bridge
by Overtime Theater
Jun. 06 - Jun. 28
Fridays-Saturdays
The Overtime is extremely excited to have a production from author David Remschel on the calendar again after producing his previous work, Against the Grain, in 2023. Theater President Rob Barron said “David’s work is fearless at facing sometimes difficult issues head on without flinching. And Bamber Bridge is important art that we are proud to be producing.”
In The Battle of Bamber Bridge Remschel goes back to 1943 and an incident involving US soldiers stationed in England. When the Army asks the pubs in the town of Bamber Bridge to segregate themselves in order to make the US soldiers more comfortable, the pub owners refuse. This leads to conflicts between soldiers and townsfolk that threaten to explode into violence.
David R. Remschel is a published playwright based in Ingram, Texas, where he frequents the local stages as both director and actor. His works have been performed on community stages and as competition pieces around the country. David is also a teacher of theatre arts in the Texas Hill Country where he has found much love in teaching what he practices and loves. David is happily married to his very talented wife, Tasha, and has one son, Nicholas.
The play is directed by Vincent Hardy. Hardy is the Chair of Fine Arts & Kinesiology at St. Philips College. He has a B.A. in Anthropology from Northwestern University and an M.F.A. from Cornell University. He has been deeply involved in San Antonio theater for far longer than he cares to comment on and has directed more than his share of productions in that time. “Hardy is an amazingly talented director who I love working with,” Rob Barron said, “We are incredibly lucky to have him here and working on this show.” Due to certain themes and some adult language, this show may not be appropriate for younger children.
Dedicated to providing original, innovative, and accessible entertainment at an affordable price, The Overtime Theater is a nonprofit organization with the mission of bringing “theater for the people” to the San Antonio community through new and thought-provoking stage productions.
