MONDAY, or The Other Rape Play
by Overtime Theater

Mar. 21 - Apr. 12
Fridays-Saturdays

Monday, or the Other Rape Play follows Wiley, a comedian navigating the tumultuous aftermath of sexual assault.  Her journey, laced with dark humor and moments of profound vulnerability, reflects the often messy and nonlinear path toward reclaiming one's narrative. Through shifting scenes between her apartment, comedy club, and therapy sessions, the play presents an unflinching look at the intersections of humor and pain, survival and silence, and ultimately, the courage it takes to seek justice and connection. Trigger Warning: This play includes explicit language and the themes of rape and violence against women.

This production deals with a variety of heavy topics and possibly triggering material, including sexual assault. It's not all doom and gloom however. Quite the opposite. The play is set in reality, but moves through time with magical realism. We get to experience a woman find a way to heal herself and take her power back. There are wonderful moments of lighthearted joy and hilarity as well,” Director Ariel Rosen states. “A lot connects me to this play. The sensitivity of not knowing when to speak up. The questions that swirl through our minds when self blame takes ahold. Not knowing where the line is or when it's been crossed. Using humor as a coping mechanism. And just being a woman in modern society in general.”

Dedicated to providing original, innovative, and accessible entertainment at an affordable price, The Overtime Theater is a nonprofit organization with the mission of bringing “theater for the people” to the San Antonio community through new and thought-provoking stage productions.
