Miracle on 34th Street
by Wimberley Players
Nov. 15 - Dec. 08
Fridays-Sundays
A white-bearded gentleman claiming to be the real Santa Claus brings about a genuine miracle by convincing a divorced, cynical single mother, her somber daughter, and the entire state of New York that Santa Claus is no myth.
This iconic story begins with a dilemma: Doris Walker desperately needs a Santa for Macy’s annual Thanksgiving Day Parade. By happenstance a kindly old man in need of a job, who calls himself Kris Kringle, appears. Problem solved! However, complications arise when it’s discovered that Kris believes he is the real Santa Claus, determined to bring the true spirit of Christmas back to those who doubt. With themes of blossoming love, Christmas magic, and compelling courtroom antics, this heartwarming tale of faith and wonder has something for everyone.
Review by Sabrina Wallace, Austin Broadway World, November 18, 2024
The play is based on the beloved story by Valentine Davies, who won an Academy Award for both Best Writing and Original Story for the 1947 film. It featured Maureen O’Hara as Doris, a very young Natalie Wood as Susan, and Edmund Gwenn as Kris Kringle. Gwenn also won an Academy Award for his memorable performance.
We are excited to announce that Karin Cunningham, a familiar face on our stage, is making her Players’ directorial debut with this production. Karin, along with her talented designers, has crafted a captivating experience that harkens back to the nostalgic feel of the original 1947 film. The creative team includes set designer Todd Martin, costume designer Kristin Knipp, music director Robby Vance, props designer Margaret Glaubach, hair and make-up artist Bridget Cook, and scenic artist Carroll Dolezal.
The Players’ Miracle on 34th Street boasts an impressive cast led by Dirk Bauer as Kris Kringle, Stephanie Nelson as Doris Walker, Mike Truesdale as Fred Gayley, Greta Alexander as Susan Walker, Daniel Bisett as Dr. Pierce, Robert Moritz as Judge Harper, Jarad Donnelly as Mr. Mara, Taylor Luke as Mr. Sawyer, Guy Ben-Moshe as Mr. Halloran, Bill Perkins as Mr. Macy, and Jeffery Hensel as Mr. Gimbel/Duncan. Additionally, an ensemble will bring to life a variety of characters including Victorian carolers, postal workers, and delightful elves. The ensemble features Eileen Truesdale, Madelyn Henson, Lily Rankin, Cash Cooley, Olivia Moreland, Gibson Rigby-Cockle, Goldie Truesdale, Sallie Truesdale, Roisin Truesdale, and Augie Rigby-Cockle.
