As the aftermath of a bus crash descends on a hospital, Dr. Phillips is suddenly faced with a new challenge: Who is this mysterious patient changing everything around the hospital and the people in it? When playwright Michael D. Burger-Song was asked why he wrote this play, he said he wanted “to emulate that classic Twilight Zone vibe where you're uncomfortable because what you're watching is so strange” and that he wanted “to keep the audience guessing” with “suspense that doesn't rely on gore or jump-scares.” Director Kat Farrell encourages audiences to “expect the unexpected! No, seriously, you are never going to know what is coming next and you are going to be laughing so hard because of that. Michael’s script is so imaginative and gave the cast room to imagine and create, which is exactly what we did. We can’t wait to entertain you!”
For this show The Overtime will be bringing back Kat Farrell who had previously directed Tune In during its 2023 season. Kat says she is “thrilled to be directing my second show at The Overtime! I love supporting a theater that stands by new works, and this is such a good example of that. I’m so excited to show audiences a play they have never seen before–you’ll be laughing the whole time at the discoveries we’ve made about the world and characters.”
San Antonio local Michael D. Burger-Song returns as a playwright to The Overtime after writing many successful plays there including The Possession from the 2023 season. When asked why he loves to have his plays performed at The Overtime he explained “It's so rewarding to have my plays performed at the Overtime. It's always an adventure to see what someone has done with words I put down on a page, and The Overtime has such a consistent track record of taking the words I write and elevating them to another level.”
