Texas State New Works Festival
by Texas State University Department of Theatre, Dance and Film
Oct. 20 - Oct. 22, 2023
Friday-Sunday
Texas State University’s Department of Theatre and Dance presents New Works Festival Oct. 20-22 in Performing Arts Center Recital Hall.
The New Works Festival features three play-readings: 70.3 by Sam Mueller, The Last Mixtape by Raul Garza, and Marry Me, Bruno Mars by Megan Tabaque. Each reading will be featured each night of the festival in the above order.
70.3 is directed by first-year MFA director Ana Paula Martinez Medina. The play centers around Lola, who recently lost weight and finds her physical body constantly in the spotlight. The play begins after Lola has fled to Colorado and signed up for a half Ironman.
First-year MFA director Caitlin Grammer directs The Last Mixtape. In 1988, high school sophomore, Carlos, created a mixtape for him and his friend Becca. Fast forward to 2019, and the mixtape has found its way into the hands of Xavi and Jenny, who discover the unspoken conflicts of Carlos and Becca and ultimately resurrect the unbridled vintage angst of the pair.
Marry Me, Bruno Mars is directed by first-year MFA director Robby Sciortino. When a vigilante conspiracy theorist and his son set out on a Pizza Gate-esque rescue mission, a massage parlor worker becomes the unwitting damsel in distress.
