A Pile-Up on Memory Lane

Fridays-Saturdays

A young man named Lupin invites his 2 friends, Tati and Des, to his apartment after years since college graduation. A knock at the door changes the whole night, when a mysterious trans woman named Harmony tries to enter as if she was invited. They don’t know her, but she insists they were all friends in college. She slowly reintroduces herself to people who swear she’s a stranger. Friendships are tested as memories start to surface. Can they trust this new guest?
Due to social themes and adult language, this show is not appropriate for children or younger audiences.

The Overtime Theater proudly presents A Pile-up on Memory Lane, a profound new social drama written by Zee Bendici, the newest trans voice in playwriting. Her play follows 3 friends from college reconnecting after a few years. Suddenly a trans woman, named Harmony, arrives who knows everything about them and even shares their memories. But no one remembers her. Suspicions rise about this strange “other” person. What does she want? Friendships are challenged and emotions run high when memories resurface.

“I wrote down ‘Story where someone comes to a reunion and nobody remembers them’ and started working from there,” writer Zee Bendici says. “What unfolded was an exploration of the unresolved, and an attempt to cope with change. Memory is a mysterious thing, and it often defies logic.”

Zee Bendici (She/Her) is an emerging playwright originally from Connecticut and now living in New York City. She was a member of the 2021 Kennedy Center Playwriting Intensive, and her work has been seen by people on college campuses in the northeast. This is her first time working with The Overtime Theater, and she is thrilled to have A Pile-up On Memory Lane premiere with such an incredible cast and crew.

“It’s such an exciting feeling to have something I’ve written reach people from halfway across the country,” Bendici says. “Non-NYC-centric theater is essential to keeping the medium alive, and I’m so glad that the Overtime has selected my play to perform.”

Kodi Kareem (via Overtime Theatre)“We have a diverse cast of actors, ranging from non-binary and transgender performers, to Black cisgender and Latin American,” director Kodi Kareem says. “The script is very clear about the people that are required for this play, and we worked hard to find actors that represent those people.”
