SUNFLOWER is a full-length musical that follows Amalie, a shy and sensitive 6th grader who doesn't fit in with her peers. Amalie finds escape from a painful life at school by magically traveling into a Van Gogh's painting. She meets Van Gogh at Cafe Terrace at Night, in the world of 19th century Arles. She finds in him a kindred spirit. As the story progresses, both Amalie and Vincent face increasing challenges in their worlds. Both are faced with depression and despair. Eventually Amalie must make an important choice. This is a musical for theatre lovers of all ages but has a special message for middle school children and their families. The play emphasizes kindness, tolerance, and hope in the face of despair.
