For decades Gaylord Kaiser, appearing as chanteuse Dina Simone, has hosted happy hour at the Gilded Cage. Advancing age and an alcohol-related mishap prompt his decision to retire Dina and perform as his out-of-drag self. Watching over Gaylord (Chuck Squier) while change waits in the wings are bar-owner, pianist and ex-lover Johnny (Russell Jackson) and shy songbird, bar back and Jersey girl Petey (Kimberlyn Montford).
Gaylord’s Last Happy Hour at the Gilded Cage highlights the perils of GOWG (getting old while gay), but reveals the power of FL&S (friendship, laughs and song).
Playwright Squier says, “Gaylord Kaiser made his first appearance on the Jump-Start stage at a Performance Party back in the '90s. With his sense of humor, musical musings and the verve to get ‘on with the show,’ he deserves a show of his own and so, here we go!”
At select performances, guest hosts who represent San Antonio LGBTQIA+ service organizations will be available to share information with audience members during intermission and following the show.

Gaylord’s Last Happy Hour at the Gilded Cage opens Friday May 31st, 2019 and runs Fridays and Saturdays, May 31st - June 1st and June 7th - 8th at 8 pm and Sundays, June 2nd and 9th at 3 pm at Jump-Start Theater, 710 Fredericksburg Rd. San Antonio, TX 78201.
Admission is $12 general admission and $10, discount for students, military, seniors and SATCO members.
