Stand Up Shakespeare: a staged reading and discussion series that will cycle through the entire Shakespearean canon and allow local audiences and artists an opportunity to engage with these works and maybe even find the inspiration to create new works in dialogue with the originals.
The aim of Stand Up Shakespeare is to offer the local audience a chance to hear the entire works of Shakespeare over the next year or so. In the cases of some of these plays we know that this might be as close to a real production of them as a local audience will ever get. We also aim to engage with local artists who can use these readings as an opportunity to re-evaluate these classic works and find ways of incorporating them into their own works.
In the next few months we will be working to put together casts to read these plays and also supplemental material to enrich the process for audiences and performers alike.
We will be commencing this series with The Tragedy of Julius Caesar.
