The Magik Theatre, San Antonio’s premier professional family theatre, is seeking an enthusiastic, dedicated, creative individual for the post of Artistic Director. SUMMARY
The Artistic Director is responsible for conceiving, developing, and implementing the artistic vision and focus of the organization. The Artistic Director collaborates with the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Board of Directors to ensure that all productions and educational programming are guided by the theatre’s mission as an educational organization and to keep the theatre’s endeavors focused on the mission.
RESPONSIBILITIES

Selects, develops, implements, and evaluates the programs for each year in conjunction with the CEO.

Maintains the artistic and programming goals of the organization.

Selects, supervises, and evaluates artistic and technical personnel.

Oversees educational programming of the theatre.

Develops and adheres to the production budget.

Writes and/or directs multiple productions per year.

Assesses the needs of each production with respect to requirements for theatre purchases
and changes to the physical space.

Assists in developing the imagery and narrative of all materials that market the theatre.

Oversees the rehearsal process and production timelines.

Acts as a spokesperson for the organization's artistic purpose at special events such as
speaking engagements, public and social appearances, fundraising events, solicitations, etc.

Oversees the development, quality and artistic vision of touring productions and annual
Shakespeare in the Park.

Stays current and engaged with the industry and TYA literature, and researches
opportunities for new scripts or collaborations.

Performs all other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor of Arts in Theatre Arts or Drama and three to five years of experience in film or theatre production with measurable growth in responsibilities. In lieu of the degree a minimum of ten years’ experience in film and/or theatre production or arts administration may be considered. Master’s degree preferred.
