IndieGoGo Funding Appeal: Last Act Theatre Company's 'STALKING JOHN BARROWMAN' musical in September, 2015
A musical about friendship, love, and the consequences of extreme fandom over John Barrowman...
Last Act Theater Company, now in its fifth season, is committed to showcasing the talents of individual artists. Heather Leonard has over a decade of experience acting and directing in theatrical productions and is an avid fan of John Barrowman. Together, these two hope to bring the wildly successful musical Stalking John Barrowman over from the UK to the United States and give it a US premiere.
The musical follows the misadventures of Jamie and Julie, two superfans of John Barrowman (star of television shows Doctor Who, Torchwood, and Arrow). They form a detective agency to solve crimes on the streets of Cardiff (really a front to find John). Their secret spying leads to greater troubles and the two are left wondering if trying to meet John was really worth risking everything that's important to them.
A successful production of this caliber and quality about a popular science-fiction star and his fans is rare, and sold-out audiences in the UK recognized that this musical is incomparable. By contributing to our campaign, you will help us give this incredible show the US premiere that John's American fans are clamoring for.
What We Need & What You Get
We need at least $5,000 to bring this show to life. The following graphic explains how your contributions will be used.
Indiegogo isn't our sole funding source for this production. We also have limited support from local businesses and arts grants. At least 50% of our budget will come from this campaign, and any monies we raise through Indiegogo, whether we meet our goal or not, will be used towards funding the production.
But you don't have to live in Austin or be able to see the show to benefit from helping us out! Check out the myriad of perks on the right for "Local" contributors who can come see the show (or are willing to travel) and "Global" contributors who can't see the show, but still want to give us a hand.
The Impact
John knows about this show and even helped out a bit with its creation and production. He has a large fanbase in the United Kingdom, where he has been a familiar face on the telly since the 1990's, but it's only in recent years that he's gleaned a popular following in the United States. In the last 6 months, LATCO and Heather have attended numerous science-fiction conventions around the country advertising the musical, and the response from John's fans has been incredible! People want to see this show. Stalking John Barrowman is a celebration of fandom and this is one way for John's fans to show John how much we love him and his work.
John is known for his commitment to charity. With that in mind, a portion of our proceeds will go to make donations in John's name to Tŷ Hafan, a children's hospice in Wales, and Austin PetsAlive!, which supports our local no-kill shelters, in honor of John's love for dogs.
