Introducing the Inaugural Fresh Squeezed Ounce of Opera (FSOO)

The first "mini-opera-showcase" of its kind in Austin, FSOO's focus is on new short contemporary operas, 10-20 minutes in length. Enjoy the regional and world premieres of FIVE varied, cutting edge pieces presented in an alternative space -- IN ENGLISH.

After a competitive national call for composer submissions, this year's works have been chosen.

And YOU will make it happen!

Be there for the beginning of FSOO, and for a taste of the future of opera. Every ounce counts.

Performance dates are:

Staged at the Museum of Human Achievement in East Austin, which has a private address. There will not be traditional tickets sold for this event -- admission is by donation only. A limited number of RSVPs will be released closer to show dates as space allows. Secure your FSOO seats today with your gift of $20 or more!

Produced by One Ounce Opera, and supported in part by the Cultural Arts Division of the City of Austin Economic Development Department. One Ounce Opera is a sponsored project of the Austin Creative Alliance.

Why a Short Opera Showcase?

You walk into a new brewery. Their tap wall is expansive. Dark, familiar, complex, light. You choose the sampler to satisfy your curiosity -- and turn you on to something new.

FSOO is that sampler. This year's curated program will introduce five thoughtful new short operatic works IN ENGLISH to an eclectic audience. Topics are varied, current, inquisitive, and historical. We guarantee you'll experience something fresh and unexpected.

It's no secret the popularity of classical arts has been waning. There is a need to foster creation of new American opera and give young composers and librettists an opportunity to have their works staged. By supporting FSOO, you will be contributing to opera's strong contemporary voice!

How else can I contribute?

If you would like to make a TAX-DEDUCTIBLE donation to One Ounce Opera in any amount, visit our secure portal, sponsored by the Austin Creative Alliance. Again, every ounce counts!
