In Flood Andrew Heinrich takes us into a dark world where an oppressive government has controlled all aspects of life.  Our story concerns the relationship between a younger man being trained by that government and an older man who doesn’t agree with all aspects of it.  It is the story of men separated by both the bright line of truth and a slowly rising tide.

Flood was developed in part at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in collaboration with the National New Play Network. The play features only two actors and the staging was intimidating.  “It’s always fun to make it rain inside,” says Chris Champlin, one of the many stage designers working on the show.

Andrew Heinrich, the author of Flood, is a playwright, actor, director, dramaturg, and violence designer working in the San Antonio and Austin area. A Wisconsin native, Andrew moved to Texas nearly 20 years ago. He holds both a BFA and MFA in theatre from Texas State University, and is an Assistant Professor of Drama at Austin Community College, in addition to working as an occasional lecturer in Dramatic Writing at Texas State University. Andrew’s plays have been produced at Texas State University, in San Antonio, New York, Los Angeles, and beyond.

Venny Mortimer, the director of Flood, is a San Antonio-based actor, improvisor, writer, and musician, who has been involved in many creative projects across town, including Monsternomicon and various shows at the Magik Theatre.  He has worked with the Overtime on a huge variety of projects for the last ten years although this is his first time directing.

Dedicated to providing original, innovative, and accessible entertainment at an affordable price, The Overtime Theater is a nonprofit organization with the mission of bringing “theater for the people” to the San Antonio community through new and thought-provoking stage productions.
