(via SPP)Step into the enchanting world of The Wizard of Oz musical, where dreams come to life! Follow the iconic journey of young Dorothy Gale, who embarks on a quest to find the elusive Wizard after a tornado transports her to the magical land of Oz. Alongside her newfound friends—the Scarecrow, the Tin Man, and the Cowardly Lion—Dorothy faces wicked witches, flying monkeys, and a yellow brick road with surprises. See this timeless tale brought to life with stunning costumes, dazzling sets, and unforgettable songs like “Over the Rainbow.” Join us on an adventure of courage, friendship, and self-discovery that will leave you believing there’s no place like home. This musical is a family-friendly extravaganza that will capture your heart and transport you to a world of wonder and imagination.

Director Jenny Lavery adds, “According to the US Library of Congress, The Wizard of Oz is the most-seen film in history. It's part of our cultural fabric. When the film premiered, Dorothy Gale was a heroine unlike any we'd seen before. Bucking the gender stereotypes of the time, Dorothy is a quick-witted, headstrong, young farm girl. I'm excited to bring this story to San Antonio because, while it is whimsical, magical, and nostalgic, it also serves as a reminder that no matter your identity, if you have courage if you follow your heart, you will find your community and feel at home in yourself. Our production honors this classic tale’s beauty and fun while infusing it with a fresh and exciting interpretation for 2024. Bring the whole family as we lean into the magic of the wonderful Wizard of Oz!”

The Wizard of Oz has themes of adventure and self-discovery, friendship and loyalty, and the classic struggle between good and evil is brought to life with enchanting technical elements. Please note that the show may feature strobe lighting during the tornado and spell scenes, haze and fog effects to enhance the magical atmosphere, and loud sounds like thunder and explosions. Additionally, some pyrotechnics and sudden blackouts may occur during key moments. We advise individuals with photosensitive epilepsy, respiratory issues, or sensitivity to loud noises and sudden darkness to take these elements into consideration.
