HEY BIG SPENDER: MacTheatre’s production of Sweet Charity opens tonight (September 29, 2023) on the MAC stage at 7 p.m. The months of work over the summer culminated in last night’s dress rehearsal which blended the show's different technical, musical and theatrical elements.

“The dress rehearsal went well,” junior Eric Judge, who plays Oscar Lindquist, said. “I think we all saw what our problem spots were and how we can fix them for tonight. Our energy as a cast really came together last night and it added a lot to the run.”

Unlike many of MacTheatre’s previous fall musicals, Sweet Charity will be the department’s submission to the Heller Awards for Young Artists (HAYA). If the show or any members of the cast, crew or student pit orchestra are nominated for an award, they will perform at the Long Center in next April’s HAYAs.

“Tonight's show will be special,” Judge said. “I have never worked with a cast that has been as self-motivated as this one. The amount of talent in this cast will shine tonight despite the obstacles we've faced along the way.”

Sweet Charity will run through this weekend and Oct. 13-15, 2023. Thursday-Friday shows begin at 7 p.m. and Sunday matinees at 2 p.m.“

Do what you have to do to see Sweet Charity,” Judge said. “If you want to see brilliant choreography, talented actors, a fantastic orchestra, and be able to laugh for 2 hours, you will enjoy Sweet Charity so much.”

Tickets are $10 for students and $16 for adults. They can be purchased at mccallum.ludus.com or at the door.
