Way Off Broadway Community Players in Leander Faces Uncertain Future, Possible Closure

Hello to our valued patrons and supporters,

 

As most of you know, we're currently leasing a space in Leander and have been planning to build it out. We've encountered some major roadblocks:

  • Even with the generous assistance of an architect and engineer, we've had multiple permitting delays and still don't have a permit to build out.
  • We've learned that the buildout costs will be far higher than expected. (For example, a major upgrade to the A/C system is needed.)

 

Unfortunately, we see no financially feasible way to build out the space. We're working with a real estate attorney to find out what our options are.

 

Is it possible we'll find a way to stay open and produce our 26th season on various area stages? Yes. We hope that happens. But we wanted to prepare you for another possibility:

 

Way Off Broadway may have to shut its doors permanently. What does this mean for you?

  • Because so much is up in the air right now, in the coming days, we'll be refunding those who've purchased season tickets.
  • We plan to have our Annual Meeting in June (details TBA). We may be voting on our future as a theatre. To become a voting member for $25, go to wobcp.org, then click "Support," then "WOBCP Membership."
  • We don't yet know if we'll be able to stage Much Ado About Nothing.
