Girl Improved is looking for dedicated performers to star in our newest production The Puppeteer’s Handbook. Written, produced and directed by adolescent girls (ages 12-14), we are creating the next generation of theatre.
We’re inviting you to audition via video submissions with a monologue of your own choice.
We are seeking eleven teen and adult actors, a talented dance ensemble, and two young females for a featured dance solo. Acting experience required, dancing experience recommended, except in the case of the dance team, for which it is required. Dance call location and time to be announced.
We’re open to non-traditional casting. Peruse the character descriptions below and if you feel you’re right for a role, please submit, regardless of age or gender. No pay.

Mondays, 6:30-9:30pm
Wednesdays, 6:30-9:30pm
Sundays, 1:00-5:00pm
Must be available for tech week before the performance dates.

Character Descriptions
SAMANTHA (Lead): Female, 16-22
Was a close friend of Emily’s when they were younger, but when Emily chose to go to college and Samantha did not, the two grew apart. Sometimes rash and can let her temper blind her, and acts based on emotion. Protective of her friends.
EMILY (Lead): Female, 16-22
A struggling dancer in New York City. She is determined and hard-working, but sometimes afraid of letting people past her defenses. Usually polite, has an ego and can be snobbish. Dedicated to her art to a fault.
JASPER (Lead): Male, 16-22
Samantha’s wing-man, idealistic but irresolute in his morals. Very intelligent and a visionary, but impatient with others when they disagree with him. Charismatic.
CHARLIE (Lead): Male, 16-22
A bit of a jester and has trouble being serious, but underneath his lighthearted personality he is soft-spoken and slightly insecure. When frustrated, he can become petty or even vicious, and often feels like a third wheel.
VYSE (Lead): Female, 30-50
A dedicated, vengeful police inspector who is out to get Jasper. Driven to a mad vendetta by the death of her sister.
SILVER (Supporting): 18+
A silent member of Vyse’s team.
BUCHANAN (Supporting): 18+
The second member of Vyse’s team.
ROSA (Supporting): Female, 30+
Emily’s dance instructor. Bold, but kind. She and Emily are clearly on good terms.
OFFICER (Supporting:) 18+
Loyal and obedient, but frequently questions both Vyse’s orders and her sanity.
CHOREOGRAPHER (Supporting): 18+
DIRECTOR (Supporting): 30+
