Auditions for The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee. 

The director of this production is not requiring a memorized prepared piece. Small pieces of the play’s text will be provided for the auditioning participants. Please prepare a song no longer than 45 seconds. Bring track or sing acapella. Also be prepared to move, while this is not a heavy dance show, director will be looking for actors that can personify a character in the body. Direction is given along the way and participants need not fear that they will in any way be embarrassed.  Though the selection process does imply some competition, the process is made as pleasant as possible and everyone is welcome to come out and audition!

 

WHEN: October 3,4 (Monday and Tuesday) @ 7 PM.

VLA Theatre; 3401 South WS Young Dr.  Killeen, TX

PERFORMANCES: November 18,19; December 2,3,4

Daytime School performances November 29 & 30, Must be available - no exceptions

 

CASTING:

Rona: (Soprano) female, 30+ a spelling bee champion herself and the returning big cheese. She embraces competition.

Chip: (Tenor) male, 18+ athletic, champion of the Twenty-Fourth Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, he returns to defend his title.

Leaf: (Baritone or Tenor) male, 18+ gets into the competition on a fluke and finds everything about the bee incredibly amusing. He is home-schooled and comes from a large family of former hippies.

Mr. Panch: (non-singing) male, 30+ the Vice principal, frustrated with his life, he finds the drive of the young spellers alien to him. A last minute replacement rousted out of bed.

Shwartzy: (Soprano) female, 18+ the youngest and most politically aware speller. She is driven by internal and external pressure, but above all by a desire to win to make her two fathers proud.

Marcy: (Soprano/Mezzo Soprano) female, 18+ is the poster child for Over-Achievers, attends a Catholic school called "Our Lady of Intermittent Sorrows."

Mitch: (Tenor) male, 25+ official Comfort Counselor, an ex-convict, performing his community service with the Bee. He has no idea how to offer comfort.

Olive: (Soprano) female, 18+ a young newcomer to competitive spelling. She is enormously shy, but blossoms.

William: (Tenor) male, 18+ a finalist last year and is back for vindication. His famous magic foot boosted him to spelling glory. Has a touchy personality.
