PART TIME TEACHING ARTISTS FOR THE 2015-2016 SCHOOL YEAR
Teaching opportunities generally occur between 8am and 2pm Monday through Friday and include the following programs:
Pre-show Workshops - one teaching artist visits a classroom for a 45 minute lesson that prepares students for the show they will soon see at the Paramount Theatre. These workshops are fast-paced, active and change in content, age of students and schools at which we teach from show to show.
Literacy to Life - a team of 3 teaching artists facilitate a 7-week residency in 2-3 third grade classrooms on a particular campus. This residency teaches the fundamentals of writing as well as creativity in an active, imaginative and exciting 90 minute workshop.
STEM Through the Arts - a team of 2 teaching artists facilitate a 4-week residency in 4thgrade classrooms on a particular campus. This residency uses drama, film, music, and dance to teach math and science content.
The Paramount Academy for the Arts is hiring experienced teaching artists for the upcoming school year. Auditions will take place on Thursday July 23rd from 6-8 and Sunday July 26th from 1-3 at the State Theatre (719 Congress).
For the audition, please prepare a 5 minute lesson or activity to share with the group that relates to one of the programs above. When preparing a lesson, please structure it to be interactive and aim it at a specific age group and/or subject area (i.e. "this activity could be used to teach 4th grade social studies," instead of "this is a game I played with my nephew once.")
Even if you are not sure of your availability in the upcoming semester, you are encouraged to audition. Teaching placements are tailored to your schedule. Auditions are to join our roster of professional teaching artists, not for one specific slot or placement. However, age preferences, previous experience and particular interests are taken into account. Once on the roster, you are eligible for further teaching opportunities such as special events and teaching positions for summer camps. All positions are paid. Bilingual applicants are strongly encouraged to apply.
To secure an audition slot, please email Mitch Harris (mharris@austintheatre.org) with your resume and which audition slot you would prefer.
