But Sweetie, He's Just Like A Little Boy
by Overtime Theater

Dec. 14 (2015)

Brett Morgan, a respectably accomplished director, has gotten his big break -- a high-budget film shooting in Italy.  Suppressed fears at the prospect of a major change surface and overwhelm him.  He goes on a drunk while wearing meticulously overdone Texan garb and speaking in a thick Texan drawl.

Pierre, his producer/employer is looking for him -- not easy while Brett has his cell off, is in disguise, and is avoiding being recognized.

Jacqueline and Angela are having drinks at the bar of a large French cafe on Melrose in Los Angeles.  They are serendipitously joined by Brett (Tex) and significant interactions ensue.

Characters Needed:

Brett Morgan (Alias Tex):   Lead, mid 30's.  A respectably accomplished film director with a few unresolved issues lurking in his subconscious mind.

Jacqueline Finch:  British, late 20's.  An intelligent, modern woman and devoted mother of two young children.  She is a bit exasperated by the state of her marriage to a mid-level executive in the film industry.

Angela Finch:  mid 20's.  From Chicago, living in Boston.  East coast educated, underemployed, sincere.  A real angel unless hurtfully crossed. She is visiting her brother (Jacqueline's husband) in LA after an upsetting break-up from her live-in boyfriend.

Pierre Durand:  French, late 40's.  A successful producer who knows how to get things done, and yet shows extraordinary patience with people he genuinely likes.  Brett's employer.

Stephen Donleavy:  Gay, mid 30's.  A bartender with a wry sense of humor.  He spent the usual stint as an actor, but gave up that game years ago.

Trang Quan:  Vietnamese, mid 20's.  Raised in the Vietnamese refugee community. Intelligent and capable with a lingering accent, encountering cultural resistance.
