Beehive the '60s musical is a high-energy jukebox musical created by Larry Gallagher that celebrates the powerful female voices and iconic chart-topping songs of the 1960s, from the innocence of the early decade to the changes of the mid-60s and women's empowerment in the later years. The show is performed by six female actor-singers and features hits from artists like Aretha Franklin, Janis Joplin, The Supremes, and Tina Turner, taking audiences on a journey through a transformative era in music and American history.  

 


Beehive Self-Tape Auditions

TexArts Professional Series in Lakeway is accepting self-tape submissions for Beehive. Please prepare one 32 bar/1 minute 60’s pop/rock song in the style of the show. Make sure to slate your name, pronouns, and if there is a specific role you are interested in. In addition, please attach your headshot and resume. Callbacks will be on Monday, November 10.

We are looking for talented and diverse performers of all ethnicities for all roles that are true triple threats. We desire to be as inclusive as possible and we enthusiastically encourage gender non-conforming, genderqueer, transgender and nonbinary actors to submit to audition for any roles listed.

Beehive is scheduled to open on Friday, February 13, 2026, and closes on Sunday March 1, 2026. Rehearsals are scheduled to begin on Tuesday, January 20, 2026. Rehearsals are from 6:30-10 pm on the weekdays and from 12-6 pm on the weekends. There will be one dark day during the week which will most likely be Mondays. Shows will be Thursdays through Saturdays at 7:30 pm and a Sunday matinee at 2 pm with possible Saturday matinee additions.

Character Descriptions: 
The core female characters in Beehive are often cast as follows: 

    • Role: The narrator and strong leader of the production. A powerful and engaging actress who carries the majority of the dialogue and interacts with the audience. 
    • Role: Represents artists like Lesley Gore and Patsy Cline, singing songs like "It's My Party" and "A Natural Woman". Often possesses a strong, lyrical voice. 
    • Role: Embodying artists such as Dusty Springfield and Nancy Sinatra, with songs like "Downtown" and "Where the Boys Are". A strong singer, often noted for a warm and lyrical voice. 
    • Role: Known for portraying rock and folk icons like Janis Joplin and Lulu, singing songs such as "Piece of My Heart" and "To Sir With Love”. A strong actress and singer, adept at the powerful, often gritty, vocal styles of rock and folk. 
    • Role: Portrays pop and R&B divas, including Diana Ross of The Supremes and Judy Craig of The Chiffons, with songs like "Where Did Our Love Go?" and "One Fine Day". A strong lead vocalist with excellent dance ability. 
  • Gina: Mezzo-Soprano
    • Role: Represents the powerful soul artists like Tina Turner and Aretha Franklin, with songs such as "Proud Mary" and "Respect". A dynamic performer with a strong voice for R&B and soul. 

Compensation

Up to $900 total for nonunion professional actors for all rehearsals and performances including Saturday matinee additions (not including the possible extension). Stipends available for current BFA/BA/AA students.
