Hello! Welcome to Speedrun. We are a new ATX-based theatre

company and community dedicated to building safe spaces for

young-adults (18-29) in the arts that are inclusive, collaborative, and

prioritize fun. Named to honor our first ever production (Starkid’s “The

Trail To Oregon”), the team at Speedrun is independent, backyard arts

making at its very core: aiming to bridge the treacherous gap between

educational and professional spaces with paid opportunities for all to

grow in projects pitched by, led by, and starring young people.

Now entering our third season, 2024 saw the foundation of our yearly

production cycle - two full length plays (with “Men On Boats” and

“Playing With Fire”) a summer musical (with “Twisted”) and one block

dedicated to producing entirely original community work (with “The

When & How/Every Creeping Thing”). The 2025 season will produce

“Hamlet” in March at the Austin Playhouse, “Stranger Sings: The

Parody Musical” in July at Trinity St. Playhouse, and “CLUE: Onstage”

in October at The Dougherty Arts Center.

The Show

Our rendition of the Shakespearean classic HAMLET will feature a

trimmed down, slightly modernized version of the original text, and a

cast of only 8 performers, many of whom will play multiple roles. The

director will be casting all roles without regard for gender, and

performers should be prepared to answer on how they would like to

present their character(s) - as masculine, feminine, or completely

androgynous - and how this will affect the story.

Tech applications will close @ midnight on Sunday, December 15th.

Virtual acting auditions are open until December 22, 2024.

conclusion of the run, alongside compensated meals between

2-show-days, and an additional percentage should the production

profit. Tech pay will be comparable to this amount, ranging higher or

lower based on the time commitment of the role assigned.

The Director

Austin Civatte (he/they) has been a passionate

performer since he could walk, and an active

member of the ATXtheatre community for a

number of years. A purveyor of artsy odd-jobs from

Haunted Houses, to Renaissance Faires and LARP

camps, he discovered his passion for directing in

2021, and has never looked back - “Hamlet” will be

his 5th time in the director chair. As head of

Speedrun, he is committed to uplifting other

creative voices from across the city he loves, and cannot wait to get

started in 2025.

The production will also be joined by Speedrun founding member Clint

Lienau as intimacy and fight choreographer. Our thanks to the

Speedrun Board Members below for their additional work in making

the show happen!
