The Storm - A Tale of the 1900 Galveston Hurricane
by Norman Ballinger
Nov. 01 - Nov. 10
Based on a historical fiction novel by Richard, J. Dobson about the 1900 Galveston hurricane, The Storm is a short play about a woman with a special power of foresight who struggles with her gift. A working class husband and wife, newlyweds with a baby on the way, are separated by the hurricane - each thinks the other has perished. The baby is born at the height of the storm.

I’m looking for 3 non-AEA actors, 1 male and 2 female who appear to be about 30 years old. The male and one of the females are caucasian, the other female is Latina. The play is about 20 minutes long to be performed up to 3 times (but at least once) during Frontera Fest 2025. Dates of initial performance to be announced later in November. Frontera Fest runs January 14 through February 15, 2025, taking place at Hyde Park Theater, 511 West 42rd St. This is a labor of love all the way, no pay.
Auditions by appointment, involving a partial reading of the script. Rehearsal times TBD by mutual availability, approximately twice per week for 2 hours. We will start with a group read-through, take about a 2 week break to allow actors to get familiar with their lines and flow of the story. We’ll determine the rehearsal schedule from there.
If you would like to audition, please send resumé and headshot (if you have them) along with phone number to n_ballinger@yahoo.com.
