Tick, Tick... Boom! is a musical about a young composer in New York City who is struggling with love, friendship, and the pressure to create something great before his 30th birthday. The musical explores themes of self-doubt, the fear of failure, and pursuing your dreams. The musical features a blend of rock, pop, and musical theater styles. The musical encourages viewers to pursue their ambitions and to ask themselves whether their actions are governed by love or fear of failure. 

Setting: The story takes place in 1990 in New York City. 

 


Audition Video Submissions for Tick, Tick Boom

 

Characters:   

Jon: An aspiring Broadway composer who lives in SoHo, New York in 1990. Jon is worried about his lack of achievements and aging as his 30th birthday approaches. ** Would love a basic knowledge of how to play the piano.

Michael: A childhood friend of Jon's who gave up acting to pursue a career in marketing. Michael also plays Jon's dad, an executive, a temp, a market research guy, a counter guy, and Rosa Stevens. 

Susan: Jon's girlfriend who is a dancer who teaches ballet to wealthy children. Susan also plays Rosa Stevens, Jon's mom, a secretary, Judy Wright, and Karessa Johnson. 

Audition Details....

 Please prepare TWO contrasting 32 bar songs in the style of the show. Please remember to slate your name and if there is a specific role you’re submitting for. If you have already attended our first open call, you do not need to submit again.

  • Director: Carl Gonzales Music Director: Andy Heger
  • Tentative first rehearsal: January 21, 2025
  • Rehearsals will be held weekday evenings from 6:30 pm – 10:00 pm, Saturday 12-6 pm; & Sunday 12 pm - 6 pm. There will be one dark day during the week to be determined.
  • Tech: Saturday – Sunday, February 8-9
  • Opening Night: Friday, February 14, 2025
  • Performances are Thursdays-Saturdays at 7:30 pm, Sundays at 2:00 pm
  • Tentative Closing: Sunday, March 2

Compensation

Up to $900 total for nonunion professional actors for all rehearsals and performances (not including the possible extension). Stipends available for current BFA/BA/AA students. Out-of-town actors will be considered, but no housing or transportation can be provided.
