upcoming season
by River City Pops

Sep. 05 - Sep. 07

Each year we put on one or two stage shows. We sing, we dance, we have fun. We create our shows from scratch with full group numbers created by our leadership and director, but the majority of our show comes from “specialty” numbers created and produced by group members. This makes every RCP show a truly unique experience.

We are in the process of finalizing our 41st season which will conclude with our annual mainstage production on May 16th and 17th, 2025 at Austin Playhouse. Additionally, our season will also include smaller scale performance opportunities in partnership with local businesses around Austin, which are an additional (optional) opportunity for members to do what they do best - perform!

Rehearsals for members will resume again in October 2024 if participating in these smaller-scale performance opportunities, and January 2025 for our mainstage production.

We are excited to offer in-person auditions for RIVER CITY POPS this September!

  • Thursday, September 5th, 2024 at 7:00pm.

    • Thursday’s auditions will take place at the Violet Crown City Church at 1300 Morrow St. in Austin, TX 78757. You can park in any of the parking lots at the church. To find us, there is a courtyard on the church property with a long corridor with several doors. Most of those doors lead to where we'll be, but we'll make sure we put some signs up as well!

  • Saturday, September 7th, 2024 at 12:00pm.

    • Saturday’s auditions will take place at the Dougherty Arts Center at 1110 Barton Springs Rd, Austin, TX 78704. Auditions will take place in Room 2W. You will meet a member of RCP in a holding room while you wait to audition. Please note that parking can sometimes be difficult at Dougherty Arts Center depending on other DAC programming, so please allow enough time.

You can sign up for a time slot for vocal auditions via this link. Dance / movement auditions will take place in groups after vocal auditions, so please prepare to stay after vocal auditions for the next available dance call.

What should I prepare for the audition?

  • Auditions will include both a vocal and dance audition. A few days prior to your time slot you will be emailed an audition form to fill out before you arrive.

  • Please come prepared with a song no more than 1 minute in length, as well as a track to use for singing, as accompaniment will not be provided. Sing in the style that most suits your voice - be creative! We want to hear YOU. You will include your track in advance via the audition form.

  • Please come prepared to move in a short dance / movement audition that will be designed with multiple options to suit all levels and abilities. Whether you are a trained dancer, a singer who moves, or a performer with limited mobility - we just want to see your ability to follow direction, have rhythm, and give a great performance. Have fun with it and don’t worry about it!

  • Dance shoes are optional for the dance audition, but clothes should be comfortable for movement. You may or may not have a chance to change before the dance audition.

  • If you have any questions or are unable to attend in-person but would like to understand virtual audition options, please email president@rivercitypops.org.

We cannot wait to see you at auditions. Thank you for singing and dancing with us!

If you aren’t ready to audition this year, but would like to try us out first by visiting a rehearsal, let us know by contacting president@rivercitypops.org. We will not resume rehearsals again until after our auditions later this year.

Rehearsal schedules vary from show-to-show and gig-to-gig, but generally our rehearsals are on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 7 - 9 or 10 pm with occasional Saturday mornings as we get closer to our show date.

We are a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Members are expected to help with fundraising to the best of their ability through various opportunities both in-person and virtual.
